It’s hard to believe that I have just finished up my first year at Michigan State University. I have come such a long way this year as a person and a musician in the past few months and I find it incredible how much I’ve learned. Studying my passion for sharing music as a focus has been a dream come true.
In August, I moved to East Lansing from Maryland to start Preseason Drills. A week later I was a full member of the Spartan Marching Band. A month later, East Lansing and Michigan State University felt like a second home.
I learned how to high-step, to play saxophone and flute, and had the opportunity to work with some tremendous musicians. I entered the Leonard Falcone Competition on a grant from the MSU Music Department. I can’t wait to come back to Michigan State next year to continue to better myself, study, practice, and become the best music teacher I can.
But before I come back to East Lansing, I have the fortune of working with the Drum Major Academy IMPACT Team and the Paint Branch High School Marching Band, as well as some students individually on euphonium and trombone. It’s going to be a great summer to lead up into an even better next year.
