It’s been a busy semester, but in a very good way! Got a couple of big events to share with everyone as this semester quickly draws to a close.
I attended the New Directions in Music Education Conference held this year at the Kellogg Center on the Michigan State University Campus. This was my first music conference, and certainly not my last. The presentations focused on teaching composition, improvisation, and musicianship in the 21st century. As an individual with experience that is very band-based, it was quite enlightening to see examples of programs and ideas that increase participation and interest in school music programs.
Just this past weekend, I attended the Tau Beta Sigma North Central District Convention in Dayton, Ohio. I had an amazing time meeting other sisters, and learning how to grow Michigan State’s Zeta Epsilon chapter. It has been an excellent year as Treasurer, and I hope to continue to contribute to TBS in any way that I can. Follow us @TBSZE and on our Facebook page to keep up with the chapter! Just a few more meetings until the end of the year, and the start of a new page for the Zeta Epsilon chapter. I will surely attend next year’s North Central District Convention in Grand Rapids, Michigan!
I just found out that I have been awarded the Paul and Mavis Pitzer Endowed Scholarship for Urban Teaching from the Michigan State College of Education. I am honored and humbled to receive this award, and I am very excited to move forward on the Music Education track.
Just three more full weeks of classes! Hang in there everyone!
