It’s amazing how fast this semester has gone so far! But every new semester brings great new opportunities!
First off, in January, I worked with my Tau Beta Sigma chapter Zeta Epsilon to run a workshop for local Girl Scouts to get their Music Badge! As a former Girl Scout myself, this was a really exciting opportunity to teach the girls how music is made. I had to the opportunity to show them a bit of the euphonium (a new instrument for them), as well as guitar. It had been a while since I had the opportunity to work with kids that age, and it was a real treat to be able to give back a bit to the local community.
I really hope that I can work with my Sisters to make this an annual event! It was fun for everyone involved.
Despite the cold winter in Michigan this year, summer is beginning to peek around the corner. I am pleased to have been invited to be an Instructional Staff member with Drum Major Academy this summer. This really is a dream come true for me. After two years as an attendee and two on IMPACT Team Junior Staff the past two years, I really look forward to passing on what I know and continuing to learn from everyone involved.
I also forgot to mention that I started doing my Service Learning for my Teacher Education 250 class. I am working with the Michigan State University High School Equivalency Program (MSU HEP) that helps individuals with migrant and seasonal worker backgrounds get their General Educational certificate (GED). It has been a very unique program getting to engage with this program and I am excited to keep working with them this semester!
It’s shaping up to be a great 2014!
